Airman Killed in Off-Base Car Crash

Ellsworth Air Force Base, S.D. (April 2, 2019) – Last week, the U.S. Airforce published a press release announcing the death of an active-duty Airman in an off-base vehicle accident.

The 25-year-old airman was assigned to Ellsworth Air Force Base in South Dakota. The release identified him as Staff Seargent Rueben Adam Gilbert, of Auburn, California.

Gilbert was a Cyber Systems Supervisor with the 28th Communications, Squadron. Colonel John Edwards said of the incident, “This is a tragedy for our wing to lose one of our own. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all involved and their families. We are committed to supporting his loved ones and his fellow Airmen during this difficult time.”

The accident happened Friday night, near the town of Hot Springs, S.D. It remains under investigation and further details were not immediately available.
