Some insurance policies may not cover dog attacks or dog bites from four types of dogs:

  • Pit bulls;
  • Rottweilers;
  • German Shepherds;
  • Doberman pinschers.

Many insurers have it written into their policies that they don’t cover incidents involving these dog breeds. Because of that, a victim would have to go after the dog owner personally instead of the insurance company.

The insurance company’s belief is that these four breeds are known to be naturally aggressive and known to bite people. Therefore the insurer will not cover related damages. Insurance companies do not want to pay out money for dogs that have a greater tendency to bite someone.
